Handicap Committee

Handicap Committee Members

Have been a RH resident for 3 years. Originally from South Carolina but was residing in northern Virginia prior to retirement. Have been playing golf for about 25 years. While in Virginia I served  with the Veterans Golf Association (VGA) managing tournaments and handicap systems via the Golf Genius system for veterans throughout the state. Currently serving on the RH18MGA board in the Tournament Liaison position.

I moved to the area from Columbus, Ohio, and became a resident and member of River Hall in June of 2023. I have been playing golf since I was 13 years old. Although I have never served on a membership committee before, I look forward to participating in club tournaments as I haven't had the chance to play in one here yet.

I am a native Floridian, originally born in Fort Lauderdale, and I relocated to Lake Wales for retirement in 2016. In December 2022, I moved to this area to be closer to my daughter and grandchildren in North Naples. I first played golf briefly in the 90s, but I started playing regularly in 2017 with a 30 handicap, which now typically fluctuates between 8.2 and 11.5. I currently play here 3-4 times a week, and my notable finishes include winning the Senior Net Championship in my first year and the Match Play a couple of years ago, in addition to achieving a couple of hole-in-ones on holes 12 and 16; I have no prior experience serving on a golf-related committee.

My name is Carol Martello. I was born and raised in Chicago. We became members of River Hall in 2016. I have been playing golf for about 15 years. I am currently the RH18LGA Tournament/Handicap Chairwoman. I look forward to have a great 2025-26 season.

I am originally from Indiana and have been a full-time resident here for 4 years. I have been playing golf for 4 years and served on the ladies' 9-hole board as secretary for the last 2 years. I would say my best game was 44 for 9 holes, and my best drive is 254 yards. I also got closest to the pin twice in tournaments, both on hole 12. I am on the travel club as a travel advisor while working part-time in surgery.

Kate Thome serves on the Handicap committee at River Hall Country Club in Alva, Florida, where she is a proud member along with her husband, Randy.  An enthusiastic golfer and active participant in the River Hall community, Kate enjoys helping fellow members understand and maintain fair handicaps while promoting the camaraderie and sportsmanship that make the game so rewarding.

Kate’s love for golf has taken her to several clubs over the years.  She is currently a member of River Hall Country Club (2023-present) and Bentwater Golf Club in Acworth, Georgia (2025-present). She has also been a member of Ridgeway Country Club in Appleton, Wisconsin, and the Oshkosh Municipal Golf Course in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.

Beyond her current role, Kate has a strong background in golf leadership and advocacy.  She previously served as President of her Clubs participation in the Northeast Wisconsin Golf Association (NEWGA) and is a past member of the Executive Women’s Golf Association (EWGA).  She has also been a proud supporting member of the United States Golf Association (USGA) for over 10 years and is currently a member of the Florida State Golf Association (FSGA). Through these experiences, Kate continues to support the values of fair play, integrity, and community that define the game at every level.
